From the organizers:

On the occasion of Beethoven’s 250th birthday (1770-2020), pianists Luu Hong Quang and Luu Duc Anh will bring to the Vietnamese public the greatest masterpiece of Beethoven in particular and of music history in general – the Symphony No.9.

Ludwig van Beethoven is considered to be a great composer, the most inspirational person of all time. His life was full of suffering, poverty, loneliness, illness and deafness – a bitter irony to a musician. But against all odds, he continued to compose, and a majority of his most notable works were created while he was deaf, including the Symphony No.9.
During the piece’s premiere, he had had to turn around to receive the acclaim he could not hear.

Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 is considered to be the greatest achievement in music history and continues to influence the development of music and society. This famous work is inspired by Schiller’s poem “Ode to joy”, with a victorious tone very suitable for Beethoven’s classic and powerful music.

Originally composed for a symphony orchestra with a choir, the piece quickly became one of the most loved and performed symphonies in the world. The Luu brothers will perform the Franz Liszt’s version for two pianos, which is
nowadays rarely performed in international concert halls. 20 fingers of two young pianists will replace hundreds of orchestral artists to create a unique rendition of this masterpiece.

Ludwig van Beethoven (1770 – 1827)
Symphony No.9, Op.125 in D minor “Choral Symphony”
(Version for 2 pianos transcribed by Franz Liszt)
1. Allegro ma non troppo, un poco maestoso
2. Molto vivace
3. Adagio molto e cantabile
4. Finale

The concert also marks the first duet performance by pianists Luu Hong Quang and Luu Duc Anh in Vietnam. The two brothers are excellent solo pianists with many successful concerts in Vietnam and abroad but have never play together in a duet at home.

Prior to the main performance, there will be a discussion on Beethoven’s life and his music to help the audience understand the spirit of Beethoven and enjoy the show with great excitement.
