Towards a Sustainable Agenda for the Cultural Heritage in Central Vietnam

What strategies are in action today for a future sustainable agenda for the Cultural heritage in Central Vietnam, for Unesco sites, parks and natural areas and museums? What is the commitment to involving local communities through educational projects? And what is the commitment to balancing the touristic offer with the needs of conservation and integrity of the sites?

These are some of the main issues that will be discussed at Casa italia, 18 Le Phung Hieu Str., Ha Noi, on Thursday 7th December 2023 in an international seminar co-hosted by Embassy of Italy and Unesco Field Office in Hanoi and organised by Polytechnic University of Marche and Hué University of Sciences as the final act of a three-years scientific cooperation carried out in the framework of the Bilateral project funded by the Viet Nam Ministry of Science and Technology and by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.

The seminar on the topic “Towards a sustainable agenda for the Cultural Heritage in Central Vietnam” will propose a close dialogue between academics and experts and the main institutions representing the site managers and local communities at any level. It focuses on the value assessment of the main types of heritage to stress the critical issues for a long-lasting conservation and a responsible enhancing in cooperation with the site managers and local communities. In the three sessions of the seminar – Heritage and Central Vietnam, Technologies and Communication, East and West comparative studies – the heritage of Thua Thien Hue, Quang Tri and Quang Binh provinces will be enlighted in its values, local policies, conservation issues, the questions of identity and authenticity, the potentials of designing alternative touristic cultural routes and more, the knowledge sharing by the storytelling combining multimedia solutions for responsible and sustainable development. Also, the presence of Italian Ministry of Culture, of CASE (Research Centre of European Studies), and of a few selected cultural and trading Italian institutions will provide more topics to compare on tangible and intangible heritage.

The UNESCO Culture 2030 Indicators – Environment & Resilience, Prosperity & Livelihood, Knowledge & Skills, and Inclusion & Participation – provide a solid platform for a new agenda and a communitybased action.
