Lên Ngàn is pleased to present the Intimate Talk: “A Journey of Nostalgia”, part of the cultural and artistic project “Ma: Road to Nothingness.”

This talk opens a space of creative exchange, where each story becomes a journey of listening and learning — offering deeper understanding into how past generations lived and expressed themselves through performance, dance, and traditional arts. The conversation holds meaning not only for young audiences but also for contemporary artists. It also serves as a source of inspiration for students, researchers, and culture lovers in their exploration of local heritage and personal identity.

“Ma: Road to Nothingness” is an interdisciplinary stage production where contemporary dance merges with traditional Vietnamese music and visual art to offer a truly unique artistic experience. More than a fusion of art forms, the piece is a profound exploration of connection—between the individual and the community, the soul and memory, the past and the present. Drawing inspiration from Vietnamese ancestor worship and spiritual rituals, the performance revolves around the image of mã—a symbolic representation of the soul, of return, and of the cyclical nature of life and death. Ma: Road to Nothingness is not just a performance, but an open space where audiences are invited to reflect and engage with themselves and with the deeper spiritual values of Vietnamese culture.

The work integrates traditional musical forms such as chầu văn, ca trù, tuồng, and chèo with contemporary genres like jazz, techno, trap, and house. This musical fusion creates a fresh sonic landscape that reflects the evolving identity of Vietnamese culture in the age of globalization. In addition, contemporary dance techniques, along with refined lighting and visual design, elevate the narrative of rebirth, return, and the convergence between the physical and spiritual worlds to new heights.
