Đoàn Quỳnh Như, a distinctive voice in contemporary Vietnamese art, returns to her homeland with the solo exhibition Thiên Vũ – Dance of Nature, taking place first in Saigon and later in Hue. Following her past showcases, Khiêu vũ tới trập trùng (2022) in Saigon and Mộng cảnh (2024) in Hamburg, she now presents around 30 new works using acrylic and mixed media on canvas — opening a visually emotional journey reflecting on nature, humanity, and their deep interconnectedness.
Thiên Vũ – Dance of Nature is a visual dance, where each brushstroke and color block tells the story of Mother Nature — majestic, tender, and quietly wounded. Works like The Earth Giving Birth, Primordial Dawn, Reverie, or Stitching the night’s Wound demonstrate a breakthrough in her technique and materials, merging feminine intuition with a strong ecological consciousness. Each painting is a dreamscape, where nature becomes a mirror of the soul — evoking a range of emotions: the radiant joy of dawn, the passionate stillness of a river, the desolation of snowy plains, or the vast cosmic silence where light and shadow converse.
Through her abstract language, Đoàn Quỳnh Như conveys the message of Gaia consciousness — the idea of Earth as a living entity where all life forms are interconnected. The rugged textures and cracked paint strokes hint at Earth’s scars — deforested lands, drying rivers, and the consequences of human greed. Yet amidst this, hope persists: in vibrant tones of renewal, crimson streams, and resilient roses blooming among jagged cliffs — prayers for the healing of our shared home.
Her art becomes a meditative ode to nature, calling viewers to feel, reflect, and reconnect with their sense of being and responsibility. As critic Ngô Kim-Khôi noted: “Her paintings are like a wordless symphony, where poetry and painting lift each other, guiding the audience back to the most primal and necessary emotions.” The Thiên Vũ – Dance of Nature exhibition is an invitation to pause, to listen to the whispers of Earth and sky, and to rediscover a deep-rooted love for nature — a love embedded in every brushstroke of Quỳnh Như.
