From the organizer:

This program presents three distinct cinematic slices exploring urban sensibilities, personal memory, and the turbulent relationships of contemporary Vietnamese society. From the introspective solitude of a man haunted by regret in The Vanished Cloud, to a group of friends attempting to mark a place before it vanishes in 10,000 Years Heading West, and the intense dialogues of love, addiction, and violence in KETAMINE.

Though each director brings a different storytelling approach, visual style, and background, all three films reflect efforts to reimagine short film as an art form — one capable of capturing not just fleeting moments, but entire evolving living spaces.

Nguyễn Việt Anh is a screenwriter, director, and founder of 29FILMS. He graduated in Screenwriting & Directing in Toronto, Canada. Known for both short films and documentaries, his standout The Vanished Cloud won Best Asian Short Film at CinemaSHORT ASIA 2023, and was awarded at Xine Xem Fest and various regional film festivals.

Sulla is an independent director, screenwriter, and producer. With a background in journalism and a self-taught approach to filmmaking, she is recognized for deeply personal and culturally resonant works such as The Reading (Quẻ Ngược), báu. the treasure., and Heading West. She is also the founder of The Orange Blues Film & Creative Production.

Sĩ Đăng is a director, lecturer, and film practitioner, currently teaching at the Faculty of Communication, HUTECH University. He studied directing at Saigon International Film School and Northern Arizona University. His works often explore psychological contrasts and conflicted urban relationships, as seen in KETAMINE.

This screening and conversation offer a chance to reflect on emerging storytelling trends in Vietnamese short cinema — through the eyes of independent filmmakers with distinctive voices, constantly searching for new visual languages and forms of expression for enduring themes.
