Vũ Thanh Nghị’s solo paintings exhibition, entitled A Walk of His Soul, with 20 pieces of art works made in 2008.

From the technical aspect, the painter is very good in using the painting language to harmonize both cubism and surrealism. So, the figures in his pictures look not only very familiar but also very strange as if they come from a far world. To master the technical skills of these both “ism”, the painter certainly has to work very hard. But his rich and childish imaginative world has flied him far away where he can absolutely, comfortably and freely create and work so hard with his high techniques.

Artist Statement:

My oil paintings are not different to oil sculpture because I carve unnecessary parts out and let empty spaces remained. In my paintings, everything and everybody looks like as if it is made of stainless steel, very cold and strict, making people feel noisy, stressful, fidgety, crooked. Thus, they must go out to seek for their own inner peacefulness. Iam not sure if that going or mobility can help anyone to escape from the black hole of life to fall in another black hole- black hole of his/her own souls… As for me, I myself must seek for my own inner balance by that going. I go out of myself to experience. So simply the inner balance, as a mood of going out of one’s ontics to look back himself.
