Ethnic Minority Costume Festival

250 to 300 candidates who represent 54 minorities are expected to take part in the festival
At least 5 minorities have been losing their traditional costumes

20-30 Nov, 2011, open all day 8 am ’til evening
Cultural and Tourist Village of Vietnamese Minorities, Sơn Tây

About 250 to 300 candidates who represent 54 minorities are expected to take part in the festival while wearing daily costumes with their accessories. Besides that, the candidates have to show their abilities and knowledge about their minority’s culture through conduct contests.

According to the Minority Committee, there are at least 5 minorities who have been losing their traditional costumes, including the Xinh Mun, the Pu Péo, the Sila, the Cống, and the Rục. This festival is of special significance because visitors will be able to get a close look at the traditional costumes of the 54 minorities.

Directions: Go to Mỹ Đình and turn west onto the Thăng Long Expressway toward Sơn Tây/Ba Vì. Stay on the road going straight even after the expressway ends and becomes a 2-lane highway. The road eventually enters the Cultural and Tourist Village of Vietnamese Minorities, Sơn Tây.

Tickets: Free admission

Note: This event was researched and written up in English by Yên Thị Bùi, who is one of the children of the Blue Dragon, a non-governmental organization helping Vietnamese children in crisis lead productive successful lives. See http://www.bdcf.org/ to help.
