GZ Open Tour no 1 “Tho Ha old Village”

GZ Open Tour is GreenZoom’s brand new activity with the sharing and interactive approach. This monthly program is organized as friendly and simple field trips, also known as place-based education, which give the participants lived experiences and opportunities to study. Exploring the life in a traditional trade village, studying Vietnamese folk architecture, visiting a unique cultural place, discovering a historical anecdote, exploring the nature, traveling in a way of ecotourism, eco-camping, etc, are planned to be included in the program. GZ Open Tour focuses on the interaction and lived experiences, which encourages the spirit of “Sharing and Creating” in the community, especially among the youth..

The first GZ Open Tour “Tho Ha old village” will be held on Saturday, November 29, 2008.

“Tho Ha old village” Introduction
Tho Ha is a lonely village locating by the Cau river, just about 40 km far from Hanoi. The village name awakens the reminiscence of golden days of pottery industry. However, through many ups and downs, Tho Ha pottery is now almost got lost since people here make rice sheet instead of pottery. Anyway, Tho Ha is now still an old Vietnamese Southern village with the images of a leisurely flowing river, a lovely ferry boat and a fascinating curved Đình (communal house in the village)…”

Main activities:

• Visiting the Tho Ha pagoda and temple – unique and great architectures of Southern culture
• Learning rice sheet industry and taking part in the process of making rice sheet.
• Visiting the rare pottery making family and studying the changes in pottery industry.

The language is Vietnamese (with English translation for international participants)
Required fee: 50.000 VND/ person (Arrange your own lunch)
A bus will be arranged to transport participants from GreenZoom Open Space at no. 47, Thai Thinh 1 to Tho Ha
