New look at Hanoi architecture
Design theory and mythology in the socialist city
David Le, an American researcher studying architectural history in Hanoi, has just printed a book of photography and writing about Hanoi’s modernist architecture. The book, which was funded through a Fulbright grant, is about how design theory and mythology have come together in the socialist city. In terms of architectural history there’s been plenty on interest in pre-colonial and colonial architecture, but almost none on the modern period.
