Youth Theater – Faces
Mon 08 Dec 2008, 8pm
Tues 09 Dec 2008, 8pm
Youth Theater
For this German-French-Vietnamese cooperative hip hop dance project Sébastien Ramirez (France) and Raphael Hillebrand (Germany) work together with 11 Hanoi artists.
“What is my greatest dream in life?
How can I be master of my future as a hip-hop dancer?
What is my place in society as a young woman?
How do the peoples of other countries see us Vietnamese?
What is love? …”
The visions of the 11 young Vietnamese artists – 9 dancers (1 female, 8 males) and 2 musicians, (1 female, 1 male) – are complex, have great depth, are sometimes funny and ironic, but are always touching.
To be young in a country that lives with the tension between development and tradition, to stand by your decision to choose an unconventional lifestyle: what results is a portrait of a variety of faces – and masks – of Vietnamese youth today.
