Tomoko Mukaiyama

Tomoko Mukaiyama has studied in Tokyo, the US, and Amsterdam, and in 1991 won first prize at the International Gaudeamus Competition. She has since performed extensively internationally. In addition to her activities as a soloist she has performed with the many international orchestras. Many composers have composed works for her.

Her interest in experimentation has led to collaborations with people from different arts-fields, such as the architects “digital PBX”, theater director Jan Ritsema, filmmakers Frank Scheffer and Ian Kerkhof, fashion designer Niels Klavers (Paris Collection 2000 spring/summer), and butoh dancer Kim Itoh. A recent project is “for you,” a piano recital series for the public, which is an experiment in intimate communication between the artist and audience through music.
