Pop-Rock Opera “Dream and Reality” with English Subtitle

The Opera Dream and Reality is a story based on texts of young Vietnamese bloggers today. The story is about An and Hung and their blogger-friends, and their discoveries about the world.

Music of the Opera composed by Hung and Gustav Andersson, is mainly rock-based, but also has been influenced from classical and traditional music. This makes it the first ever contemporary Opera written in vietnam where the music is both acoustic and electronic. The symphony orchestra of VNOB will play together with rock musicians and traditional vietnamese musicians from Vietnam Academy of Music. The stage is designed by Monika Frelin, and contains art-films from Academy of Fine Arts where the student has worked with some of the themes of the script: “Freedom for a teenager”, and “A meeting with death”. The ensemble 9 singers, 20 chorus, 5 children and 16 dancers, directed by Helena Rohr, and choreographed by Phuong and Phong. This Opera “Dream and Reality” will bring many emotions in a telling story that has many levels.

The story is about young people that try to find out what their dream is, and how to make their dream come true. An – the main character of D & R – dreams about to play the drum. But in order to realize her dream, she needs to go away from everything she thought was true. She finds out more about who she is and meets new friends.

In order to find yourself, you need to know what your place is. And in order to find your place in the world, you need to know who you are. When you leave everything behind, sometimes it’s hard to keep on the road. Some of An’s friends has fallen off the road, but when they form a rock band together, they can continue their journey forward.

On their way to their dream, the tradition and the contemporary meet, the dead and the living co-operate. And in the end, maybe the old and the young generations can come together.
