Attention Artists – WHAT MOVES YOU?
WHAT MOVES YOU? – 48 HOUR CHALLENGE
July 17-19, 2009
An exciting challenge for choreographers, dancers, and video/film makers.
On Friday July 17, 2009, DFA challenges you to read, hear or see the news of that day, decide right then what resonates with you and e-mail us what moves you, and then create a dance film inspired by that in 48 hours.
Every day, the media bombards us with information on everything from shoe sales to the latest in the economic crisis, obituaries, weddings, “green” innovations, stock tips. What do you respond to the most?
On Friday July 17, 2009, DFA challenges you to read, hear or see the news of that day, decide right then what resonates with you and e-mail us what moves you, and then create a dance film inspired by that in 48 hours.
Designed as DFA’s 2009 Young Choreographers Initiative, this challenge sets time and costs at a minimum to encourage everyone to collaborate and keep the production process simple. Surprise us with your style and imagination (any style is acceptable). Creativity rather than budget are most important!
Process
* E-mail [email protected] on July 17th with the title of your video, a brief explanation of the story/photo (and what source) inspired your dance.
* Choreograph, shoot, edit, and submit your film (4 min. max) by July 20/7am.
* Upload it on www.dancemedia.com and put “dance-on-camera” in the tag line.
Gold Award for Choreography/Direction wins $500
Bronze Award for Idea wins $250
Silver Award for Performance wins $100
