Gudni A. Emilsson

Gudni Emilson had an early start in music, with his first lessons from his father at the age of 4. In his hometown of Reykjavik, where he was born in 1964, he studied the violin at the conservatory before receiving a scholarship from Iceland which enabled him to graduate in Trossingen, Germany with a master’s degree in piano and conducting.

Emilsson been awarded prizes from the Herbert von Karajan Foundation and the Richard Wagner Foundation, and was honored by the Deutschen Musikrat. He has appeared as guest conductor of numerous orchestras and ensembles not only in Germany, but also in the rest of Europe and in the USA, Brazil and Vietnam. His musical travels have taken him to festivals and stages the world over.

He has served as artistic director of the Tübinger Chamber Orchestra since 1999 and since 2005 of the Camerata Bohemica Prague as well as chief conductor of the new Thailand Philharmonic Orchestra.

Julia Galic, Violin

A native of Tübingen, the violinist Julia Galic debuted at age 13 and has since frequently appeared as soloist. After gaining diplomas in teaching and orchestra at the Trossingen University of Music she completed her artistic training including solo classes, graduating with distinction from the University of Music Stuttgart. In addition, Galic continued her training in numerous master classes. She has appeared on stage with the Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra, the Zagreb Soloists and the Moscow Chamber Orchestra. Julia Galic is concert master of the Tübinger Chamber Orchestra and teaches violin at the Tübinger School of Music.

Hoang Tung, Oboe

Hoang Tung, born 1985, received instruction from Ngo Phuong Dong from 1996 at the Hanoi National Academy of Music. 2002, 2004 and 2006 he was first oboe with the Southeast Asian Youth Orchestra. With the Hanoi Wind Quintet he won first prize at the 2005 Asian Symphonic Band Competition in Bangkok. Since 2006 he is first oboe with AYO, the Asian Youth Orchestra.

The Tübinger Chamber Orchestra

The Tübinger Chamber Orchestra was founded in 1957 with the intention of encouraging friendship with international universities and youth organizations, and building bridges between young musicians from all over the world. The impressive result: 69 concert tours in 90 countries on 5 continents, often accompanied by renowned soloists. Gudni Emilsson, already well known in Vietnam through several appearances as guest conductor, has served as artistic director of the Tübinger Chamber Orchestra since 1999. He brought the Tübinger musicians to Vietnam in 2005.

Vietnam National Symphony Orchestra

The Vietnam National Symphony Orchestra was founded in 1959. Members include many successful graduates of the Hanoi Conservatory of Music, as well as Vietnamese musicians who have received their training in well-known music universities in Europe and Asia. Under the direction of Ngo Hoang Quan they have frequently cooperated with renowned conductors including Honna Tetsuji, Hidemi Suzuki (Japan), Colin Metters (UK), Pierre Andre Valade (France) Le Phi Phi (Macedonia), Gudni Emilsson (Germany)…
