Of the many options facing artists for spaces and venues to think and create, artist residency programs struck us at Bui Gallery as something worth discussing. Choosing a program, applying for it and making the most of it can be a dizzying process. We would like to make that process less daunting and more rewarding, and so we offer a panel of experts in the field, three artists who have had much experience with residencies: Le Quoc Viet, Vu Kim Thu, Bach Dan and Nguyen Manh HUng. What benefits do residencies afford an artist, a museum, a gallery or the public? What is out there and how to navigate the complexities? What are some of the most prestigious, most forward thinking programs in Southeast Asia and across the world? Come armed with these questions and more for an unusual use of an art gallery’s space and time.
