Women Cinema is back for a third screening with Daisies, a 1966 Czech film by Věra Chytilová.
Daisies (Czech: Sedmikrásky) is a 1966 Czech film directed by Věra Chytilová. Věra Chytilová (born 2 February 1929, Ostrava) is an avant-garde Czech film director and pioneer of Czech cinema. She is considered one of the greatest female Czech filmmakers. Banned by the Czechoslovakian government in the 1960s during 6 years, she is best known for her The Czechoslovak New Wave film, Sedmikrásky (Daisies).
In 1966 Chytilová and her husband, ‘Jaroslav Kucera’, made a witty surrealist comedy Daisies (1966), which was immediately banned, but then was released in 1967, and won the Grand Prix at the Bergamo Film Festival.
