As Hanoi celebrates its 1000th anniversary, a new event will be born. In collaboration with the British Council the Bui Gallery is proud to co-host the first Art Gala and Auction devoted to promoting local artists, funding residencies abroad, running workshops, and improving local cultural spaces.
From long standing pioneers in contemporary Vietnamese art like Truong Tan, Minh Thanh, Nguyen Manh Hung, Ly Tran Quynh Giang to the seasoned expatriate, looking from the outside in, the British Council Arts Gala has the rare opportunity of representing not one vision or theme, but fourteen. For the contemporary pieces cannot simply be defined as meditations on the old or new. There are also those in between, local newcomers to the scene or those trained abroad, returning to contribute to Vietnam’s burgeoning artistic community. Each piece uniquely reflects these electric perspectives, joining together to form a contemporary picture of both Hanoi today and yesterday, stretching back through a tradition that has lasted a thousand years. So despite their differences, the collective whole represents an ever-diversifying Vietnamese or Vietnamese-influenced voice.
The British Council and the Bui Gallery hope that collectors will take this opportunity to support an exceptional artistic community and the next generation looking to find their voice at home or abroad.
