An exhibition of Helene Cancalon on Sino – Vietnamese writing on ancient scrolls will be held at Espace Module.

Helene Cancalon was fascinated by Sino – Vietnamese writing on ancient scrolls and this arrangement of indecipherable signs has been the starting point of this work.

Her goal is to re-create a new language based on these texts. She uses the techniques of collage, cutting and drying. New textures of papers from various origins found themselves mixed with precious scrolls along with acrylics and oils.

In this process, colors have spread, leaving a palette of earth tones that the scrolls had naturally imposed. Mixing is done over the canvases, connecting the past and present, the incomprehensible and decipherable, the humble and noble, in search of a peaceful and acceptable humanity.
