Exhibition “Tools of Learning, Past and Present” at Van Mieu
Duration: 01 – 30 Sep 2010
Van Mieu (Temple of Literature)
This exhibition showcases tools of learning over the periods: Feudal era, the “Binh Dan Hoc Vu” period, the Subsidization period, and the present.
The exhibition is separated into two periods: “past and present” and into 4 themes: The first theme: the Feudal era, from 1075 when the Ly Dynasty organized the first examinations to choose the greatest talents to manage the new country, until the August Revolution.
The second theme: After the successful revolution in August, parallel with developing the country, President Ho Chi Minh appealed to everyone do “Kill Invader Illiteracy”.
The third theme: the Subsidization period, which encompasses the time between the August Revolution and the Doi Moi period which began in 1986. In addition, during the period of reconstruction after Reunification, the situation in our country, which had been at war for so many years, there were many difficulties. Thus, all of school supplies in Hanoi were supplied by other Socialist Countries.
The last one: Present tools of learning.
The meaning of the exhibition is to show present students that learning conditions now are better much than in the past. In a sense, encouraging students to study harder.
This event was researched and written up in both Vietnamese and English by Yên Thị Bùi, who is one of the children of the Blue Dragon, a non-governmental organization helping Vietnamese children in crisis lead productive successful lives.
