Book fans rejoice! For the first time ever an International Book Fair will be held this year in Hanoi presenting literature from around the world. Germany is of course represented. The Frankfurt Book Fair in cooperation with the Goethe Institut will present over 800 titles in German: literary new releases from A as in Jacob Arjouni to Z as in Juli Zeh (who, by the way, will be a guest of the Goethe Institut Hanoi on 02 October) as well as non-fiction, children’s books, youth literature and comics.

Another “Germany in Vietnam 2010” event. See our Feature Page for info on more events celebrating German Year on Vietnam.

Two main themes are books about Berlin in literature, history, politics and art; and books about Alexander von Humboldt, the great explorer and discoverer.

For all those who like to read German books in Vietnamese: local publishers will present their newer translations of German books, including scientific works such as the definitive work of theologian theologian Hans Küng “Die großen christlichen Denker”, published by Tri Thuc, and novels such as Daniel Kehlmann’s “Die Vermessung der Welt” (Nha Nam).

And here are two event tips:

Saturday, 18 September, 10am – 3pm: Dr. Christoph Link, Book Fair Frankfurt: Books and Publishing in Germany. Symposium for representatives of publishers and translators, open for the interested public. In German with simultaneous translation into Vietnamese.

Sunday, 19 September, 11am: Book Presentation: German Books by Vietnamese Publishers

Number of German collective boothes: 93,94,95,96,97,98 at Hall A1
