SHOPPING AT GOETHE
Deutschlandshop – Vietnam Branch is an interesting, interactive exhibition. Generally art exhibitions insist on a hands-off experience so when the viewers are invited to play with or handle the objects on display it takes a lot of encouragement before they will accept the invitation. Usually we surreptitiously sneak a touch when no one is watching…a bit like naughty kids.

The exhibition/shop is arranged in what one assumes is a typical Germanic way a bit clinical, a bit antiseptic, but coolly attractive. Even the music is a bit clinical in that it seems to keep a measured distance from your emotions.

The main fascination for me is the integration of traditional painting and drawing with photography, illustration, graphics and design so that finished products can be seen from conceptual conception through to fruition.

If you are willing, and have the time, the shop offers an opportunity to follow individual artist’s journey and motivations more available if you understand German or Vietnamese.

Not a reviewer, not a critic, “Kiếm Văn Tìm” is an interested, impartial and informed observer and connoisseur of the Hanoi art scene who offers highly opinionated remarks and is part of the long and venerable tradition of anonymous correspondents.
