Meet Jim Goodman, author of a concise history about the oldest, continously inhabited city in Southeast Asia. “A Dragon Still Ascending” is a very readable history about Hanoi’s 1000 years.
This book is released this week by The Gioi Publishers.
The 260 pages give a well written, easy to follow story that include great maps, reproductions of drawings and photographs, modern images, and an easy to follow time line.

Author, Jim Goodman, has been writing cultural histories about Asian countries since the 1980’s including acclaimed books about Nepal, Thailand, Yunan (China) and Vietnam.
Some readers may be familiar with his ‘Exploration of Yunan’, ‘Children of the Jade Dragon’ and ‘Guardians of the Forest’.
Jim is somewhat of an expert about things Vietnamese. His first Vietnamese title was ‘Uniquely Vietnamese’ which is in its second reprint. In the planning stages is ‘Delta to Delta’
Jim is from Chiang Mai, Thailand and visits Vietnam several times a year for research.
