Lecture “Sculpture on Stage. Artists between Theater and Art”
In the 20th century there were a great number of encounters between fine artists and the theater in Europe. While at first artists took on the traditional function of stage designers, in recent times a cooperation has developed in which theater has opened up and entirely new forms of presentation have become possible.
In their lecture, Veronika Witte and Berthold Schneider give a short overview of important developments in this cooperation and introduce their own projects on the border between art and theater in Berlin. They will focus in particular on ‘stage sculptures’ which have been realized since 1999 in staatsbangberlin and the Saarland State Theater.
