“I Guess It Was Just One Of Those Things”. I wanted to enjoy the music of guitar trio Le Nouveau Trio Gitan but despite the really excellent guitar playing I was a bit put off by the too musak quality of the first couple of numbers even though I realized that so much of their universal appeal (which is enormous) comes from their revisions of the old jazz vocal classics and I guess I just wanted more of that smokey jazz club feel and improvisation that I’ve grown used to as I’ve caught up with a crop of their clips and discs and then it finally came loud and clear as in: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=daDr27ONOac&feature=related
As the night progressed I got over my Les Paul uptightness and relaxed more into the Christian Escoude magic even though my ears wanted more of this clip.

The predominantly young, Vietnamese audience loved it all and forced a few encores from the flexible and furious fingers of Escoude, Laya and Lippi.

Another great venture by the French and L’Espace.
