Thu 11 Nov 2010, 9 am
Vietnam Museum of Ethnology
From the organizer:
Join us for an enjoyable and fascinating morning walk through the Vietnam Museum of Ethnology’s great displays of the country’s 54 ethnic groups. Dr Mark Rapoport, will give lead a focused, in-depth and interactive discussion of selected displays. This walking tour will delve well beyond the usual museum overview.
The discussion will focus on matters of identity, history and technology, especially as determinants of current and future status and cultural survival. Issues will include the implications of the East Asian heritage on the groups in the North and the “non-Asian” (Pacific Island) roots of the peoples of the Central Highlands. Mark will discuss these differences as they relate to textiles, tools and religious beliefs—all of which have contributed to shaping identity, history and culture.
Join us at the museum entrance.
