The Brazilian Embassy will be showing two films this next week-end at the Hanoi Cinematheque. Both films are in Portuguese with English subtitles. Check out the time and synopsis below.
Film: “Os Normais/So Normal”

Genre: Comedy
Directed by: José Alvarenga Jr.
Synopsis: The film shows the day when Rui and Vani first met. It was at their wedding (with other partners). Vani was going to marry Sérgio, and, immediately after, Rui was going to marry Marta in the same church. While waiting for the first ceremony to finish, they begin to talk. Complications ensue.
Film: “Tempos de paz / Peacetime”

Directed by: Daniel Filho
Synopsis: The story takes place on April 18th, 1945. The war has ended in Europe, but Brazil still found itself technically at war. The film opens with an interrogation by a customs official (former-torturer of President Vargas) of a Polish ex-actor who had lived the horrors of war. The actor is suspected of being a Nazi fugitive. The film portrays a critical period of Brazilian history and speaks of Manichaeism and of fighting for life.
