From L’Espace:
You are invited to attend a conference on “La Société d’Enseignement Mutuel du Tonkin” (1892-1946) which are often known as Tri Tri Association – a cultural association in the first half of the 20th century. Nguyen Phuong Ngoc – Doctor of Sociology, Associate professor of Vietnamese literature, language and civilization at Provence University will lead the conference.
In the late 19th century, a number of former students of Thong Ngon School initiated the idea to establish Tri Tri Association with the primary purpose to help each other with French and French culture. However, the objectives and principles of the Tri Tri Association gradually changed in order to “open people’s knowledge and to train talents”. Since the terrorist attack in 1908, Tri Tri Association continued its operations: in addition to classes for children and adults, regular presentations had been held. Moreover, magazine with articles about the value of Vietnamese literature, culture and society had been printed. Tri Tri model has been replicated in many places in the country. Tri Tri has an important contribution to the eradication of illiteracy, as well as dissemination of Western scientific knowledge into Vietnam society at that time.
French – Vietnamese simultaneous interpretation will be provided.
Free admission.
