From DOCLAB:
You are invited to the first DOCLAB’s 2011 screening series of “Contemporary Documentary Classics” – Salesman, one of the landmark American documentaries.
Salesman (1969), which chronicled the adventures of four Bible salesmen, was one of the best-known documentaries directed by David and Albert Maysles, along with Gimme Shelter and Grey Gardens. The Maysles brothers were credited as being one of the founders of the documentary genre known as ‘cinema verite’. Their films, a form they described as the cinematic equivalent of the nonfiction novel and also called ”direct cinema,” constituted a major departure from the more traditional documentary technique of running a narration and static face-to-face interviews.
In our “Contemporary Documentary Classics” screening series, we will present the world’s contemporary documentary films including those by Chris Marker, Alain Resnais, Werner Herzog, Jessica Yu , and Wu Wenguang.
Salesman is a must-see for all documentary film makers and lovers.
The screening is non-profit and is for studies and research only. Following the screening is a Q&A session.
Languages: in English with Vietnamese subtitles
