An exhibition displaying lacquer artworks of Vietnamese and international artists in project “Open Lacquer” will be held in Hampden gallery, Amherst , Massachusetts, USA. The project is one part in a global art project “Interconnected World” hosted by Transcultural Exchange.

Project “Open lacquer” started from 2010, is initiated and implemented by artist Dang Anh Tuan with the participation of Vietnamese artists like Pham Hong Phuong, Pham Huy Thong, Bui Trong Du, Tran Lam Binh, Doan Thu Huong, Nguyen Hai Nam, Luong Van Viet and international artists such as: Phi Phi Oanh (America), Khai Doan (German), Saeko Ando (Japan), Chung You Mi (Korea). All artists create works on Vietnamese traditional lacquer material, find and exploit more expression ability of lacquer, combine lacquer with other materials and other art genres like sculpture, installation,.. with the aim to make Vietnamese lacquer integrate deeply into contemporary art, contribute to improve position of Vietnamese lacquer in the world.
