You are invited to film screening “Ceramists in Vietnam” with participation of Bernard Ganne, Research Manager of National Research Center (CNRS), co-director of film with Jean-Paul Pénard and following discussion “Mutation of trade villages, adaptation of enterprises” with participation of Axel Demenet, IRD; Bernard Ganne, Ms Ha thi Vinh, a company’s manager, Ms Pham Chi Lan and Mr To Duy Hop, specialists of Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences.
For many centuries, Bat Trang village, near Hanoi city in Vietnam, have manufactured ceramics. With open-economy policy, Bat Trang has many unprecedented changes for recent decade: mutation of techniques and production, integration in new circle of sales, global dynamics. It is a local traditional world which is disordered, additionally, trade village develops from planned economy.
The film observes traditional artisanal working conditions and development of new ateliers. It follows new techniques and shows organization dynamics which are implementing, it does not conceal possible divergences. And it also explores gains and losses and impacts of joining WTO, is it an opportunity which cannot be missed or a threat needed to dismiss?
