From Hanoi International Theater Society (HITS):
Absurd! What kind of theater is THAT???

Arising in mid-twentieth century, the same era with many important changes in the stream of human history, philosophy and arts, Theater of the Absurd signifies a unique theatrical style of the nonsensicality. It emphasizes on the illogicality of the world and the concept of human beings and their ideas being trapped in that world. Theater of the Absurd adopts special theatrical skills in language, plot and character development. It both reflects and parodies principles of previous periods, embracing its avant-garde spirit.

Diverging from logic, Theater of the Absurd liberates writers and the audience from convention, and challenges them to confront the social system they are living. Regardless of its dark, pessimistic approach to the matter, Theater of the Absurd gives hope to those who desire to pursue truth and humanity by acknowledging a more completed and multidimensional picture of the universe. Its purpose in the end is to look deeper into the individual and their connection with the world surrounding them.

Go to HITS’ Theater of the Absurd workshop “Hanoi Goes Absurd” to learn about absurdism, explore absurdist theater’s acting techniques, and broaden your repertoire. Come to both or either workshop. Workshops are lead by Anne-Marie, Dana, Kelly, and Hien Nga.

Spaces are limited so we ask for emails and applications to join stating interest and experience (everyone is welcome and does not have to be a previous member of HITS).
