Launch of British Council Arts Fund

Vietnam’s artists are to receive a 42,000 USD boost with the announcement of a fund set up to help develop careers and build international links. Set up by British Council Vietnam it will be available to artists, curators and producers who have submitted the best proposal as judged by the high profile board.

The board’s six members are Nguyen Phuong Hoa, head of European Bureau, International Relations Department, Ministry of Culture, Sport and Tourism, My Linh, a reporter at VTV3, musician Quoc Trung,  arts curator Tran Luong, British film maker Paul Zetter and fund chairman Neil Webb, British Council director of Arts and Creative Industries for East Asia Region.

In October 2010, the British Council in collaboration with the Bui Gallery, organised an Arts Auction with work donated by the Ford Foundation and such artists as Nguyen Manh Hung, Ly Tran Quynh Giang, Pham Huy Thong and Jamie Maxtone-Graham.

The British Council Arts Fund (BCAF) will support Vietnamese artists and Vietnamese arts organisations. In particular it aims to enhance collaborative practice between Vietnam and United Kingdom while promoting understanding of the two cultures.

“Vietnam continues to have an incredibly diverse and talented set of artists.  Much of its arts scene has developed in isolation but is now further benefiting from international influences.  It’s our aim to help nurture artistic talent to continue to open it up to both a wider audience and to wider influences,” said Simon Beardow, Deputy Director of the British Council.
