From Goethe Institut:
You are invited to the concert “Lost in Vibration”. The sound from a thousand years of the traditional instrument has been lost. New sounds come to the instrument. Once again, it is lost in vibration.  “Lost in Vibration” will be a performance of six dan tranh: Nguyễn Thanh Thủy; Nguyễn Thùy Dung; Nguyễn Quỳnh Ngọc; Phạm Thu Thủy; Nguyễn Khánh Chung; Trịnh Thị Hạnh.

For more information, see below:

Artist Nguyen Thanh Thuy

Nguyen Thanh Thuy was born into a musical family and raised with traditional folk music from childhood. She graduated in 1998 from the National Music Academy and this was the year she won the First Prize and Best Traditional Music Performer Prize in Vietnam. In 2002 she graduated as Master of Arts from the Folklore Institute. Nguyen Thanh Thuy is now active in both traditional and experimental fields of music as a performer in many countries. Currently she teaches dan tranhat the Vietnam National Academy of Music. She has released many CDs.

Since 2004 Nguyen Thanh Thuy works regularly with many composers of contemporary music such as Nguyen Thien Dao, Tran Kim Ngoc, Kent Olofsson, Richard Kapen, Malin Bang. Thuy often plays new music with musicians in Scandinavia and the US. She works as an improviser. Often improvising during performances, Thuy is the first pioneer to bring the dan tranh into the experimental arena. She has mastered many techniques that do not exist in traditional music. “Lost in Vibration” is the first experimental piece for dan tranh composed by Thuy.

Dan tranh is a very popular traditional instrument in Vietnam. But ”Lost in Vibration” will allow audiences to lose themselves in the new concept of sound and music for dan tranh. ”Lost in Vibration” will show how strong and rich the sound of dan tranh can be. ”Lost in Vibration” will demonstrate that the value of tradition should be the first step of creating, not the last step. And the tradition of tomorrow should begin today.

Free Admission.
