KVT – A Perfect Pregnant Pause

KVT is swept away by a bevy of beautiful pregnancies
It’s a pity but sometimes the best shows aren’t advertised widely enough for me to catch them and I’m really, really, really glad that someone alerted me to Nguyen Khac Quan’s ceramic exhibition of pregnant women at VFAM….the Vietnamese Museum of Fine Arts
It’s definitely one of the best art shows of the year and, unfortunately CLOSES ON THE 12th and IT”S TOO GOOD TO MISS!
Some shows are just too good to talk about … you just want to drag people along so that they can experience it too.
You enter the first gallery and are confronted by two large lingham carved with pregnant figures
fertility at its most sensuous. The rest of the gallery celebrates the pregnant form. Beautiful vessels , some full size, others smaller, and glazed in a variety of ways.
Gallery 2 is magic! It’s full of a field of small, roughly formed, pregnant nudes that brings to mind the famous fields of figures by Anthony Gormley. You can spend hours observing the wonderful pregnant ceramics in this wonderful field.
Nguyen Khac Quan is from Giang Lao commune near Bat Trang pottery village. He’s 49 years old and has a great talent.
An exhibition that makes you say WOW in the best possible way. I’m there again tomorrow to say WOW again.
Kiem Van Tim is a keen observer of life in general and the Hanoi cultural scene in particular and offers some of these observations to the Grapevine.
