In the framework of Y Viet 2011 and on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the unification of Italy, the Embassy of Italy in Vietnam, with the sponsorship of NEM Fashion, proudly presents the photo exhibition  “Italian Sites of UNESCO Heritage List” representing a priceless heritage to be shared with a global audience and conserved for future generations.

The UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites currently totals 911 sites, of which 45 are Italian. These sites recount the history of humanity, narrated by their excellence. Since 1979, when the archaeological site that contains the delicate stone-carved art of Valle Camonica was the first Italian site to be added to the UN’s World Heritage List, Italy has seen 44 additional sites included in the list. To date, Italy is home to the greatest number of World Heritage Sites, confirming its role as the curator of exceptional historic and cultural treasures.

The idea of creating a photographic exhibition arises from the wish to enclose within a single space the possibility of allowing the public at large to get to know the extent of UNESCO heritage sites in Italy. A meeting with Luca Capuano, followed by the collaboration with the same, has led to the project called “UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Italy” presented in its entirely in the exhibition held at Villa d’Este in Tivoli in March 2010. Luca Capuano was spiritually united with the beautiful heritage in our country and this can be seen with incredible force in his work.

The showcase “Italian Sites of UNESCO Heritage List ” offers a unique view of the most valuable treasures in Italy, not because they are the most important or the most beautiful, but because of their status as world heritage, they do not belong only to the Italians, but to all the people of the world.
