Tchaikovsky’s Rococo Variations

Come to the Tchaikovsky’s Rococo Variations with Austrian Conductor Wolfgang Groehs, soloist Harriet Krijgh (Cello) and the Hanoi Philharmonic Orchestra of the Vietnam National Academy of Music. The concert will feature the Overture from the opera “L’ Italiana in Algeri” by Gioachino Rossini, the “Jupiter Symphony” by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, and the Rococo Variations for Cello and Orchestra by Pyotr Ilich Tchaikovsky, with Austrian-Dutch Cellist Harriet Krijgh as soloist.

About artists:
Wolfgang Groehs was born in Austria in 1950. He finished studies in Music at the Music Academy in Vienna as well as at the University of Vienna. As a conductor, Maestro Groehs has performed inter alia at the Vienna Raimund Theatre, at the Opera of Graz and at the Salzburg Festival. In 1992, he founded the Europa Symphony Orchestra whose chief conductor he is. He has toured many countries of Europe as well as China and Japan. Maestro Groehs is especially well-known in Vietnam. He has performed in Hanoi a number of times and he has conducted the Vietnam National Symphony Orchestra as well as the Hanoi Philharmonic Orchestra. In 2006 and 2007, he conducted Mozart’s Magic Flute at the Hanoi Opera.
Harriet Krijgh was born in the Netherlands in 1991, and she received her first cello lessons at the age of five. In 2000, she was admitted to the Conservatory in Utrecht. In 2004 Harriet moved to Vienna. She continued her cello education at the Konservatorium Wien Privatuniversität, where she will be completing her Bachelor studies in 2012. Between 2008 and 2010, Harriet received special recognition in several music competitions. She received a first prize and a separate laureate prize at the “Princess Christina Competition” in the Netherlands, a first prize and a CD recording at the Austrian national competition “Prima La Musica”, a first prize and the Nicole Janigro prize at the “International Cello Competition Antonio Janigro” in Croatia, and a first prize at the Fidelio Competition in Vienna. Since December 2010 Harriet is the outstanding cellist of the German quality CD-label Capriccio and she will be recording two CDs in November 2011 with music for Violoncello and Piano.
