KVT’s Excellent Weekend Adventure Part 2
The grande finale of the Dutch sponsored Hope Box (HBX) …. a worldwide program, collecting creative minds from all over the world combining fine arts, graffiti, music and other art-forms in various multidisciplinary projects …was at Mai Gallery on Saturday evening heralded by hip hop.
It’s the end result an 11-day get together of young urban artists from Amsterdam and New York and young creative, hip Hanoians who are desperate to break out and at least graffitti a bus or train or two in the name of art.
The local Hope Box Angels are still in their in their subversive infancy but given a leeway or two the end results could be pretty explosive. As it is, the exhibition till the 19th is lots of fun and ‘up yours!’ in a derivative but earnestly rebellious sort of way.
Hopefully the program will continue to involve Hanoi’s up and coming and let’s be different young set until there’s a really big, in your face and controversial sort of end result.
Thank’s Mai for continuing to take the initiative.

Hoang Duy Vang had a very splashy and colorful group of expressionistic canvasses at the Art Museum. Unfortunately I thought that the exhibition was going to last until this week (it was up from the 2nd to 5th) and although I got to enjoy the swaying movement and brilliant color that pulsated through the two galleries, it’s too late to tempt readers.
Went back on Monday to enjoy it again but the doors were locked, the lights off and the paintings gone so I had to do with images I’ve stolen from the very handsome catalogue that Vang compiled
I’ve followed Vang’s work for a few years now since I drooled over his expressionistic waterlillies. He’s got a lot of Monet about him and in this exhibition I could almost imagine myself nose up to hay stacks in all sorts of seasons and light
Quite invigorating!
