KVT – Feeling Rich and Sensuous in Ngo Quyen
KVT gets involved in traditional colors
If you get along to 16 Ngo Quyen to catch the very excellent exhibition concerning Barons then make sure you go up the stairs to level two.
Attractive and petite Ngo Hai Yen has mounted an attractive and sumptuous figuratively abstact traditional lacquer exhibition. Lots of gold leaf has been used to create out rich and luscious textures.
Many viewers won’t realize the amount of hard work that goes into getting traditional lacquer looking good. There’s a fair bit of mediocre stuff around and a lot of artists have taken the less laborious and more colorful short cut and now use artificial Japanese mediums, which in the hands of a good practitioner, can also be turned into fine art works. But for those who love the traditional and eschew modern techniques, Yen’s work will please them.
It’s a great exhibition to stay with for a while. Move to the middle of the gallery and you’ll find yourself getting more and more involved in the subtle and sensuous movements in the pieces.
It’s a seriously sensuous collection of work and recommended.
Exhibition: till about 08 Feb 2012 (?)
