This Saturday, two prominent bands of Hanoi who have really put the word ‘live’ into ‘live music’ go head to head in a night that will be so loud you’re likely to still hear the echoes on Valentine’s Day.

Go Lim’s first show since …December 2011. The last show of Machete.Sex.Mix. In the words and spirit of Led Zep, that adds up to a whole lotta love and a whole lotta minutes of great music.

Each band comes with their respective quirks and an array of refreshing electronic and guitar effects that combine with a classic instrument set up to build songs that sound fresh. Stylistically as well as technically, Go Lim and Machete.Sex.Mix have creatively distinguished themselves so far apart and beyond the ‘same old indie’ stereotype that it feels misleading to apply the term at all. Throw into the mix the perpetual energy of the band members and on-stage antics of the two, skinhead lead vocalists (front woman Nhi of Go Lim and Jacques ‘The Wolf’ of MSM) and you end up with something that is not only musically but also visually distinctive.

Whatever words you might choose to describe their music – experimental, punk, metal, rock, electronic, contemporary, all or none of the above, or something that there isn’t even a name for yet, none of this can give more than a fraction of insight into the experience of seeing these bands perform in action.

What we’re saying is, if you’ve been in the front row of one of their shows then you’ve probably been jumped on. If you’ve been in the back row of one of their shows then you’ve probably been jumped on.

We don’t know about you, Hanoi, but we like being jumped on.
