KVT gives Paramodel a last hurrah

Paramodel, the outstanding Japanese art installation, draws to a close. I’ve enjoyed my frequent visits to the Japan Foundation watching the installation grow and change. Where I was originally focused on the big scene, the overall view, I became more and more entranced with the minutia as these final images indicate.

Although I’m way over the top about Paramodel, I’ve been surprised at the overall reaction to it. Many expats and foreigners have dismissed it as child’s play (too many cars!?) while lots of Vietnamese have been as wowed as I am. It takes all types to make the world and just as many types to critic an art exhibition!

Whatever, I’m just glad I was able to be part of its magnificent evolution and every parent of inquisitive kids should have taken them there for a slice of magic and silent story telling.

So I’ll raise my glass to Paramodel and the Japanese. Really brilliant stuff….oops, I think I’ve said all that before….but they deserve it many times over.

  1. It was torture for my inquisitive three-year-old: he desperately wanted to touch everything but was not allowed to touch anything. The second time I went alone and had feelings like the reviewer’s.
