From Goethe Institute:

Goethe-Institute  presents 17 Artists from Vietnam, Thailand, Myanmar, Cambodia, Indonesia and the Philippines at the Fine Arts Museum in Hanoi 12 – 29 April. The Red River and the Mekong, the Irrawaddy and the Chaopraya: Southeast Asia is characterized by big river landscapes like no other place in the world. Yet these lifelines and vital ecosystems are acutely endangered by the consequences of socio-economic development and climate change.  The riverscapes, and with them the livelihoods of millions of people, face the threat of destruction.

About the Project: New Perspectives on an ecological key issue

The art project “Riverscapes IN FLUX”, conceptualized and organized by the Goethe-Institut in Vietnam, seeks to create a discourse on this ecological key issue in a new context.  The Goethe-Institut invited 17 young artists from Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia, Myanmar, Indonesia and the Philippines to reflect in their work the ecological as well as socio-economic and cultural changes that the riverscapes in these countries are currently experiencing.

The Exhibition und Its Side Line Program

17 art works have been created: Multimedia installations and photo series, videos and object installations. The exhibition will celebrate its opening in Hanoi on April 12th, 2012 and then subsequently be shown in Ho Chi Minh City from 12 – 27 May. The curators from the participating countries will present the artworks during the exhibition opening. On April 13th, there will be a discussion evening with the Vietnamese artists Nguyen Thi Thanh Mai, Nguyen The Son and Luong Hue Trinh, facilitated by curator Tran Luong.  April 21st/22nd will see a “Green Art Weekend” in association with “Live and Learn International”: movies, discussions, a science slam on the issue of climate change, games and creative activities.

With this art project, the Goethe-Institut wants to contribute to raising awareness about the invaluable ecological and cultural heritage which the river landscapes in Southeast Asia represent and create networks between artists beyond borders.

After Hanoi and HCMC, Goethe-Institut will subsequently present the exhibition in Bangkok, Phnom Penh, Jakarta and Manila.
