Hue – Exhibition “Signs and Wonders”
07 – 15 Apr 2012
Toi Linh Tu Temple
Imperial City, Hue
From the organizer:
The exhibition ‘Signs and Wonders’ delves into this ancient symbolism and airs its secrets. It explores the architectural iconography of Hué, fathoms the meaning of decorative detail, and explains the typical metamorphoses of flora and fauna.
Dragon and phoenix, amaryllis and pomegranate, oil lamp and meander are just some of the animals, plants, objects and forms that bring Hué’s temples, palaces and homes to life. They snake across gables and ridges, adorn pillars and gateways, prance along walls and panelling – protective, watchful, menacing or ornamental. But where do they come from? What is their hidden significance? What are they trying to tell us?
Visit the exhibition today, during the 7th Hué International Cultural Festival, at no extra cost. You will find it in beautiful gardens at the heart of the old Imperial City, directly alongside the Toi Linh Tu Temple, where you can also see the progress of our restoration and training project.
