UPDATE: Unfortunately, this show was cancelled due to the rain (one of the artists couldn’t get to the venue because his street was flooded). The show will be rescheduled and we will post it on Grapevine.
From the organizer:

This Thursday 14 June, Vu Nhat Tan, Scott Ezell and Bush Lam will perform as an improvised experimental trio at CAMA ATK.

Not the most likely of bedfellows, composer Tan, poet/musician Ezell and drum’n’bass DJ Bush Lam have been thrown together by the Hanoi music scene. There may be a couple of decades and thousands of miles between where they’re coming from, but they’re all heading in the same direction.

Tan has recently returned from Los Angeles where he premiered his latest compositions Cracking Bamboo and Song of Napalm at Southwest Chamber Music’s “LA International New Music Festival”. It was the second time Tan had been asked to contribute to Southwest Chamber Music events, with two-time Grammy Award-winning conductor Jeff von der Schmidt responding to the mid-performance standing ovation Tan received in 2010 with “I’ve never seen anything like it in my career.” Song of Napalm is a piece set to Bruce Weigl’s well-known poem of the same name, while Cracking Bamboo is improvisational.

On Thursday, Tan’s improvised electric soundscapes will be accompanied by Scott Ezell’s spoken word poetry and acoustic guitar, while Bush Lam adds electric bass to the experimental mix. Scott has joined collaborations with Tan in the past, creating two albums as part of the Vu Nhat Tan Group with Martin Goericke, while Bush and Tan formed a similar partnership in ATK a few months back for the We Don’t Care About Music Anyway screenings. That said, this will be the first time the three have performed together, so the results could well be a complete surprise.

Help CAMA support creative new music at ATK this Thursday.

50k Entry – all proceeds go to the artists.

Doors from 7pm; performance from 9pm
