About artists
Christian Schumann
Conductor
Christian Schumann was born in Freiburg to Hungarian parents and had his first piano lessons at the age of six. While still a schoolboy, he was accepted for preparatory classes in piano, conducting and music theory at the Freiburg Conservatory. After completing high school, he began his studies in conducting and composition at the Franz Liszt Conservatory, graduating in 2007.
Christian Schumann is considered one of Germany’s young shooting stars. Immediately upon completing his studies he obtained a position at Theater St. Gallen, and he debuted in March of this year at the Bavarian State Opera. In addition he has already led such internationally renowned orchestras as the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra und the Philharmonia Orchestra London. In Vietnam he is appearing for the third time as guest conductor with the HBSO Symphony Ochestra HCMC.
Hinrich Alpers
Pianist
Hinrich Alpers, born 1981 in Uelzen (Germany), attended the Hanover Conservatory and studied later at the Juilliard School in New York. In addition to numerous international awards, in 2009 he won the famous International Telekom Beethoven Competition, which instantly catapulted him into the circle of sought-after concert pianists in the great music centers of the world.
Hinrich Alpers’ rousing, expressive and yet subtle performances of classic works have impressed the public on the world’s most famous stages – including New York’s Carnegie Hall and the Berlin Philharmonic. He also captivates his listeners in premiere performances of works by famous contemporary composers.
HBSO Symphony Orchestra
The HBSO Symphony Orchestra, founded in 1994, is structured as a core symphony orchestra with musicians from well-known conservatories in Vietnam and abroad. With over 20 concerts per year which draw a broad urban audience, and several concert tours both locally and internationally, the HBSO Symphony Orchestra represents an optimistic step forward in relation to academic music in the city and as such is the long overdue realization of a dream. Through its great potential the orchestra has succeeded in acquiring a rich repertoire of classical masterpieces as well as more modern compositions from Vietnam and the rest of the world, which are gaining increasing favor with the public.
