From the organizer:
You are invited to the exhibition “Faraway”, a solo exhibition of works by Hanoi-based artist Do Tuan Anh.
In his latest series of paintings, Do Tuan Anh invites us on a journey deep within his own psyche as he struggles to reconcile his current life as a metropolitan artist, husband and father with the halcyon days of his rural youth. The heightened intensity of introspection in the paintings of Faraway is a natural evolution for an artist whose work to date has focused on depicting with great empathy and understanding the physical and emotional challenges faced by fellow Vietnamese who like him are transitioning from a traditional village life to an urban existence.
Tuan Anh’s work and words evince a man with one foot in his adopted home of Hanoi and the other foot firmly placed in the countryside of Thanh Hoa Province where he was born and raised. “For me personally, “làng quê” (country side village) is the spiritual foundation which forms the basis of my soul,” Tuan Anh says. “It dominates my perception of life and my approach towards living. ‘Faraway’ means to me everything that is distant in terms of space and time, but which has the power to pull a person closer to the basic attributes that combine to form the soul of an individual.”
