From the organizer:
The HANIFF Campus brings emerging talent and seasoned film professionals together and offers them a platform to refresh their views, discover new horizons, find fellow filmmaking collaborators and discuss new trends and developments in contemporary cinema and media.

The HANIFF Campus lasts for three days and offers different programme elements for DIRECTORS • CINEMATOGRAPHERS • DISTRIBUTORS • ACTORS and SCRIPTWRITERS

Grand Format

Lectures, panel discussions and stars-in-the-limelight sessions addressing the burning, inspirational and vibrant issues in filmmaking today. Taking place in Opera House or Festival’s Hotels, this format consists of large public events with topics that are of general relevance to all Talents. High-profile directors, producers, actors, editors, cinematographers, and production designers of international reputation share their experience in moderated lectures and panel discussions. The experts offer insight into various working methods and provide a background that ranges from all aspects of film production to promotion. Many of these events will relate to current issues addressed in the cinema showcased at the Hanoi International Film Festival (HANIFF), as well as reflecting the focus of the Campus 2012, “Focus on youngers”.

Atelier

Workshops, seminars and case studies enabling Talents to interact with world-class experts from all disciplines. Atelier sessions take place in Vietnam Central Scientific and Documentary Studio (or Festival’s hotels) and offer the opportunity for a more intimate and interactive exchange of experiences between Talents and experts. The sessions are focussed on specific fields of work, yet at the same time allow Talents from various disciplines to attend – thus enabling, for example, Talent directors to gain valuable information about the specifics of cinematography, acting techniques or production design, as well as giving Talent producers insight into the working process of a set designer or providing Talent actors with information on the newest ways of internet distribution for short films. This interdisciplinary and interactive set-up forms the backbone of the Atelier sessions. Basic and advanced courses are conducted by internationally renowned experts.

Hands-on training programmes

This is a hands-on training programme for producers and directors participating in the HANIFF Campus. The HANIFF Project Market (HPM) is also open to previous participants (producer and director alumni) of the HANIFF Campus.

The Project Market offers young producers and directors the opportunity to present their film projects to experienced co-producers and financiers.

The first day is dedicated to the preparation of your meetings and learning about the international business and markets. A renowned pitching trainer, our international HPM jury and other industry experts are there to help you, to give you valuable advice on how to present and to market your project, and to tell you about the ins and outs of international co-production, financing and markets.

The following days are dedicated to one-on-one meetings with potential partners for your project. They read about your project beforehand (may include in the festival’s badge) and can request 30-minute meetings with you which will be pre-scheduled by us. In addition to all this, the HPM offers a variety of informal networking opportunities. You will have the chance to exchange ideas and share your projects with other participants of the HPM as well.

HANIFF DIRECTING STUDIO

The HANIFF Directing Studio is a hands-on training programme for a group of approx. 10 directors. The training programme provides a wide variety of training opportunities in making a film, working with dialogue, casting and camera acting. This hands-on training programme is not only intended for actors; its main focus is on fostering interdisciplinary collaboration between directors, producers, screenwriters and cinematographers, with the aim of encouraging exchange between different areas of filmmaking. The HANIFF DIRECTING STUDIO is aimed at enabling directors to improve their performance by connecting them to professionals from other film disciplines.

HANIFF Script Station

This is a hands-on training programme for screenwriters participating in the HANIFF Campus.

Around 10-12 participants of the HANIFF Campus are selected by a jury to take part in the Script Station, a hands-on training programme for screenwriters. Helping scriptwriting Talents find creative solutions to their specific script problems, develop characters and dialogues to their fullest and fine-tune their script is what’s on hand at the Script Station. It connects scriptwriters and leading script consultants from around the globe to discuss and develop the as yet unpolished scripts. The Script Station commences with an intensive Project Development Day that prepares the groundwork for subsequent coaching and feedback sessions with renowned mentors who work with writers and directors on the in-depth development and enhancement of their projects, at this very critical phase of the filmmaking process.
