Films and Visual Arts at Upcoming Grapevine Party!
Fri 09 Nov 2012, 6 pm
Hanoi Rock City
Besides the exciting music acts, there will also be a lot of videos and visual arts waiting for you at our 5th birthday party thanks to the contribution from The Onion Cellar, DOCLAB and Future Shorts.
1. The Onion Cellar:
The Onion Cellar is a Vietnam-based independent arts project that aims to promote alternative culture and introduce lesser-known arts forms / artists to the local audience.
They frequently organize official screenings of ‘unusual’ films that normally would not be heard of in Vietnam, and (occasionally) concerts. The group has also collaborated with a number of cultural organizations (both local and foreign) that all share the same vision of inspiring (unsuspecting) audiences.
For Hanoi Grapevine’s birthday party, by fusing film programming with the fun of a DJ set, The Onion Cellar will curate and screen a special selection of alternative music videos – showcasing some of the most original musicians and filmmakers you have never heard of. Visual treats come in the forms of, amongst many others – a children sect, a dream machine, a Lynchian bar, a rabbit chase, a galactic battle involving a panda and an evil owl, serial killers, cops having fun, dogs floating in slo-mo, and LOTS of dancers (because this is a party, right?). If it all sounds a bit confusing, wait ‘til you hear the equally bizarre mix of (mostly upbeat) music. The Onion Cellar cannot stress this enough: they like things that are larger than the sum of their parts.
Don’t forget to follow their Facebook stream for more gigs and screenings to come. Also remember to come early on Friday because The Onion Cellar will take the stage at Hanoi Rock City from 6pm!
2. Future Shorts:
Future Shorts is the world’s largest short film network currently comprising of more than 65 cities and 15 countries worldwide and conducting regular Future Shorts screenings.
Since 2003, Future Shorts has created a rapidly expanding network that allows filmmakers the opportunity to have their work seen on the largest theatrical platform worldwide. With its recent launch in Hanoi comes an opportunity to host one of the leading and most innovative short film labels – every month – whilst simultaneously promoting an array of local venues, art and music.
Coming to the Grapevine party, Future Shorts will show random videos and visual arts both upstairs and downstairs while the bands and DJs playing, among which there will be a feature video named “Ly” contributed by artist blu Simon wasem.
