A seven day workshop for actors and directors

In contribution to creating changes and diversifying different film making approaches in Vietnam, BlackBox has collaborated with award winning Australian Film director Robert Marchand to bring about an intensive training workshop in Character-based improvisation.

This intensive workshop is a practical investigation of a unique process. It examines Mike’s – and Robert’s – methods from beginning to end in a dynamic, informative and interactive 7-day workshop. It breaks down this process into logical, easily-absorbed steps. Then the actor creates a character during the workshop, building depth and complexity over several days of improvisations and discussions. Finally, the directors film scenes based on the dramatic work created through the workshop.

Participants: 10 actors, 5 directors

Registration deadline:  30 April

Fee: 7.350.000VNĐ

Participating criteria

1. All citizens age 18 to 45
2. Is an aspiring actor (stage, film), or film maker

Scholarship Application

5 scholarships worth 65% of the full fee are awarded to applicants who are ambitious and talented.

2. STAGE PERFORMANCE BOOTCAMP

The stage performance bootcamp, which aims to conduct a final professional performance, is where you can perfect your own performing style and techniques. This workshop will help you make the most from your own ability as a stage performer, encouraging you to act naturally and improve your creativity regardless of the art areas (dance, films, theater…etc.) This will be a revolution in your career.

Some acting techniques include:

• Individual and group improvisation
• Story telling through body language, voice, music, symbol, ect.
• Stage control
• Intuitive acting
• Story handling

In the process of creation and practice for the performance, participants will receive intensive support from trainers (Phan Ý Ly, Hồ Ngọc Bảo Khiêm) and have chances to improve their own skills.

Number of sessions: 20 (3 hours per session)

Discounted Fee: 4,000,000 VND

Selection criteria

• All Vietnamese citizens aged from 15 – 40
• Have passion and serious attitude to acting
• Satisfy criteria of the audition (creativity, expression, interpretation, spontaneity..)
• Ensure adequate time for training, rehearsal and performance night

How to apply

1. An application includes a statement of purpose, 1 photo of recognizable face, 1 CV of personal information (name, DOB, sex), summarizing acting experiences and interests. Applications must sent to [email protected] before 6 p.m, May 2^nd.
   1. Audition on May 6^th : Only for selected applicants after application screening.   The audition includes 2 parts:

a. Personal techniques: Each applicant has 5 minutes to perform personal talent (music, motion, vocal, acting, ect.)

b. Exercises: Applicants do exercises assigned by the selection panel.
