From Circle of Friends:

To continue reaching the objective of setting up self-managed libraries for more than 8,000 primary and secondary-age children in the eight poorest communes of Ba Vi province, on August 9, Circle of Friends – Youth Volunteer Organization (CoF) is going to organize the third Book Festival Day for more than 180 fourth and fifth grade pupils at Thai Hoa Primary School in Thai Hoa commune. It is reported that more than 30 percent of the students have disadvantaged economic and social backgrounds and most of them surveyed do not have an access to books.

The difference of BFD at Thai Hoa School is that the books to be provided will be selected and classified carefully and appropriately in order to meet the demand of the pupils at the fourth and fifth grade. Apart from books delivery, CoF volunteers will get the children involve in a play of Little Bi’s adventure. They will follow Little Bi to discover the world of the giant Book of Dreams and join in exciting ice-breaking games such as singing, coloring the world, etc. These activities are designed to promote the students’ interest in books and pleasure of reading. After that the volunteers will guide them how to use and manage the project-provided libraries in an effective and efficient way.

Beginning in 2011 with the slogan “Let the books light up children’s dreams”, BFD project had its success stories at Cam Thuong and Tien Phong Primary Schools. More than 100 books were donated to the former’s library and more than 450 books for the 4th and 5th grade pupils at the latter’s one. CoF plan to implement the next programs of the BFD in Phu Son, Phu Dong, Khanh Thuong, Minh Chau and Ba Trai communes.

The BFD receives an annual sponsorship from Thang Long March Fund. This year, a part of the program is funded by Kim Dong Publishing House and Hanoitrans. In addition, books are collected through online book exchanges and particularly at the 2013 Ex-Book-Change event that took place on July 28 in Hanoi.

Donations for August 2013 BFD can be made in the form of providing books and stationery for only the fourth and fifth grade students or in cash to buy new books for self-managed libraries and to cover the program operation costs.

The deadline of donations is on August 7, 2013
