Butoh Dance – Practical workshop, Video lecture and Performance are 3 events with artist Katsura Kan to introduce Butoh Dance in Hanoi.

1. Butoh Dance – Practical workshop

Participants: The workshop is limited to 18 participants and is suitable for any-one interested in movements and dance with and without previous Butoh experi-ence.
Fee (after concession): 350.000VND
Language: Vietnamese, English
Dress: Comfortable, easy for movements
Led by Katsura Kan, the Butoh workshop explores the idea of “curious body” through the Group Observation of daily life which is the key to his understanding of main stream of Butoh as a movement ideas.

2. Video Lecture

Participants: The performance is suitable for artists, dancers, students and eve-ryone who are interested in creative movements and dance
Fee (after concession): Free
Language: Vietnamese, English
Led by Katsura Kan, the Butoh video lecture is a presentation with practitioners, lectures and students about “Surrealism of Body” which will be the short history about “Japanese Avant-garde art movement after WWⅡ in 1950s-60s as an origine of Butoh.”

3. Butoh Performance

Fee (after concession): Free
Audience: The performance is limited to 70 participants, suitable for people form the age of 15 and up

First time in Vietnam, artist Katsura Kan, Master of Butoh dance from Japan will perform his solo. In this event, students from the Butoh dance practical workshop will also have their own performance choreographed by Kan.

About lecturer/ performer

Katsura Kan, a native of Kyoto, is a Master artist from among the ranks of Japan’s senior generation of Butoh. He performed with the seminal Butoh troupe, “Byakkosha” 1979-1981 and then researching in Indonesia and Thailand for 20 years.
